Offer description

Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK is a principal supplier of UAS, EW and radar equipment to the UK armed forces, and an exporter of these capabilities worldwide. We are looking for experienced engineers to enhance our Electronic Warfare portfolio, delivering cutting‑edge products such as:

* Digital Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM) that provide situational awareness and identify threats even in busy Electronic Transmission Environments.
* Radar Electronic Countermeasures (RECM) that protect assets by denying tactical advantage and distracting incoming threats.

We are seeking an Electronic Warfare Systems Architect with experience in Electronic Warfare or related fields such as RESM, CESM, ECM. You should have prior knowledge of the key principles of the domain and be able to quickly grasp the science and technology behind a modern digital EW suite. A military background, operating EW equipment in the field, or experience in design, development or testing of similar products is desirable. You will work alongside other engineers, procurement and production teams to drive our EW Vigile D product forward in terms of features and non‑functional characteristics to meet evolving customer demands.

Responsibilities

* Define and recommend candidate architectures for the solution or solution element to satisfy stakeholder expectations according to standards, re‑use policies, the technology roadmap and business strategy.
* Establish the solution architecture by making trade‑offs between stakeholder expectations, technical and technological solutions, costs, risks and schedule; document associated artefacts and approve lower‑level specifications.
* Assist in the solution development cycle and in defining the co‑engineering approach.
* Manage, throughout the project life cycle, the assignment of level requirements, performance evaluation and critical parameters, interface definition, and technical negotiation between stakeholders.
* Collaborate with Electronic Warfare Product Line Engineers, Architects and Managers, EW Project Delivery Teams (including Project Management), Domain Technical and Engineering Managers, Domain Functional Management and the wider multi‑discipline engineering team.
* Evolve and grow competencies in additional domains or sites, choosing between technical expertise or leadership, and build an international career within a leading engineering group.

Qualifications

* Graduated with an Engineering or Scientific degree and significant experience in architecture and engineering systems.
* Leadership skills and willingness to engage and develop a team through collaborative work and challenging approaches.
* Responsibility, initiative and a persuasive communication style.
* Customer focus and strong relationship skills.
* Experience in one or more of the following areas: Electronic Warfare domain concepts, RF systems (EW, CESM, communications), RF performance modelling or budgeting.
* Deep knowledge of the field, operational concept description, technical strategy and operational analysis.
* Ability to work in co‑engineering environments (Lean Thinking, Obeya) and understand the different actors involved in the project, contextualising and adjusting perspectives (political, economic, social, technical, environmental, legal).
* Familiarity with concept, design, experimentation and simulation tools, including modelling tools such as MBSE, and with integration, verification, validation and qualification as well as Agile methods.

Security Clearance

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if already held; if not, the successful applicant will undergo, achieve and maintain SC Clearance. For further guidance, please visit the UKSV website. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last five years, although in some circumstances a minimum of three years’ residence may be accepted with additional overseas checks.

Benefits

Thales offers market‑leading training, development and experiences, with opportunities to be mentored and coached by industry experts. Packages include a significant bonus, a strong pension contribution, private healthcare, development‑focused targets and relocation support where required. Additional benefits: private medical insurance, cycle‑to‑work schemes, employee discounts, paid volunteering day, stocks and shares, annual bonus and more depending on the role.

Equal Opportunity

Thales ensures equal opportunities, pay, and working conditions for all. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued for who they are and the unique strengths they bring.
