Overview
Network Operations Technician role at Yorkshire Water. This is a field-based position in Customer Field Services covering South Yorkshire (Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Doncaster).
Location and work type
Location: South Yorkshire. Work type: permanent, 37-hour pattern (Monday to Friday plus standby) or 40-hour pattern (4 on 4 off).
What you will do
* Deliver a first-time fix and same-day solutions to customer and environmental problems and support the asset plan for network maintenance to prevent escapes.
* Work as part of a geographical field-based team to improve customer service and sewer network performance; ensure quality follow-on work is raised to standards.
* Ensure correct site setup and complete POWRA; identify and address risks to stay safe.
* Proactively and reactively maintain the sewerage network to prevent or resolve issues such as sewage escapes, flooding or pollution.
* Collaborate with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve operational issues.
* Operate different vehicle types as required by the task.
* Conduct thorough investigations of the sewerage system to resolve issues and prevent repeat contacts; support other operational teams as needed.
* Utilise IT systems to collate information and provide feedback; collect data and evidence including photographs and plans for reporting.
* Maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms; work with third-party providers as required.
* Follow Health and Safety practices; make day-to-day decisions with financial awareness and provide first-line technical support to achieve first-time resolution.

* Practical mindset; enjoy outdoor work in all weather; hands-on approach.
* Previous experience in a customer service-related role with face-to-face interaction.
* Ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships; influence outcomes and decisions.
* Willingness to question unsafe practices and report them.
* Excellent communication skills; ability to capture, evidence and feedback information; influence outcomes and meet targets.
* Ability to diagnose root causes and solve problems; good rational problem-solving skills; basic IT skills for internal systems.
* Willingness to work varied rotas and participate in out-of-hours standby when trained; flexibility is essential.
* Ability to work in confined spaces; pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and Spirometry tests.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
Desirable/benefits
* Understanding of sewerage systems and performance issues; IT system proficiency relevant to Yorkshire Water.
* Experience in the water or wastewater sectors or related utilities or industries; understanding of drainage and sewerage systems.
