Overview

Job details: Contract Permanent, Full-time; Department BBC Lancashire; Location Blackburn; Salary £27,600 - £37,050 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

Purpose of the role

We’re looking for an experienced journalist to deliver news bulletins with authority, personality and warmth. You’ll be part of the on-air team and may report on stories and create content for our website, audio and television services. You’ll need a confident voice, strong editorial judgment and creativity.

Key Responsibilities and Impact

* Produce and present BBC Radio Lancashire’s weekday morning bulletins and BBC Sounds bulletins.
* Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and produce accurate, impartial journalism.
* Keep colleagues across the BBC informed about breaking stories (online, social media, TV, national radio).
* Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.


Essential Criteria

* Significant recent experience reading live radio bulletins.
* Sound editorial decisions aligned with the BBC’s news agenda and audience needs.
* Strong writing skills to tell and sell stories effectively.
* Strong broadcast voice.
* Commitment to diversity and understanding how individual differences benefit the BBC.
* Ability to work effectively within a team.


Desirable but not required

* Optimo trained for online writing.
* Mojo trained.
* Effective planning and organizing skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
