As we look to grow our maintenance division in 2026 and beyond, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate horticulturist to join our team as a Garden Maintenance Supervisor.
About us:
Ian Barker Gardens is responsible for creating some of Melbourne’s most admired gardens. We nurture outdoor spaces that enhance and elevate clients’ lives through reliable and expert horticultural care.
We are looking for someone who:
* Has prior experience in the same or a similar role with demonstrated knowledge in ALL areas of gardening (including plant knowledge)
* Is passionate about horticulture and has an eagerness to learn and develop their skills as well as lead and impart knowledge to other employees, especially apprentices
* Is a supportive team player who helps to foster a culture of collaboration to achieve the best outcomes for our clients’ gardens
* Has a Certificate III in Horticulture or Parks and Gardens
* Has sound pest, disease and irrigation knowledge
* Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Maintains a high professional standard by taking an organised and efficient approach to tasks and responsibilities, and can problem‑solve when required
* Apprentices in their final year are encouraged to apply – we’re not just looking for gardeners, we’re looking for future leaders

What you can expect your days to look like:
* Complete general garden maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, mulching, hedging, irrigation repairs, pest and disease identification and control
* Take ownership of your own client list and the progression of the gardens you are working in
* Be a part of a positive team environment with a willingness to share your skills and knowledge with apprentices
* Our team works exclusively in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne (Canterbury, Camberwell, Kew, Hawthorn, Toorak, etc.)
