Position Overview
The Robot Programmer will be responsible for the commissioning, and support of industrial robotic automation systems across a range of applications. The role involves hands-on robot programming, system integration, and on-site commissioning activities, working closely with the Company Director, Controls Engineers, and Design Engineers to deliver safe, robust, and commercially viable automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Program, commission, and support industrial robots within automated manufacturing cells.
* Work with FANUC and ABB robotic systems (OEM training can be provided where required).
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of robotic kinematics including Cartesian, SCARA, Delta, and 6‐axis articulated robots.
* Configure and operate robots with additional integrated axes such as rails, positioners, and rotary tables.
* Set up and maintain Tool Frames and User Frames to a very high standard of positional accuracy.
* Use registers, position data, and logic structures for effective teach pendant control.
* Integrate robots with PLC-controlled systems using digital I/O for device actuation and system handshaking.
* Configure and validate DCS safety systems including 4D DCS zones.
* Commission robotic systems on customer sites and support customer acceptance testing.
Communication & Teamworking
* Work closely with the Company Director, Controls Engineers, and Design Engineers.
* Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Act confidently in a customer-facing role during site work and project reviews.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Proven experience with industrial robot programming and commissioning.
* Knowledge of FANUC and/or ABB robot platforms.
* Strong understanding of robot motion, accuracy, and mechanical influence.
* Experience integrating robots with PLC-controlled automation systems.
* Understanding of industrial robot safety systems and standards.
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Experience with CNC machine tending applications is preferred but not essential.
Education & Qualifications
- Level 3 or higher qualification in Robotics, Automation, Electrical, or Control Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.- OEM robot training desirable but not essential.
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence required.- Willingness to travel to customer sites; company vehicle provided.
