Offer description

An exceptional Independent Specialist School in Gloucester is seeking a dedicated and innovative Design & Technology Teacher to join their creative and supportive teaching team from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a nurturing environment where practical learning, creativity, and personalised education are at the heart of everything they do.

About the Role

The appointed teacher will teach Design & Technology across KS3–KS5, delivering a broad and stimulating curriculum tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of students. They will inspire learners to think imaginatively and apply problem-solving skills through hands-on projects, product design, and practical experimentation.

Students at the school benefit from smaller class sizes, personalised teaching approaches, and opportunities to develop confidence and independence through practical subjects. The successful teacher will work closely with colleagues to plan engaging lessons that combine design principles with technical accuracy, using both traditional materials and modern technologies such as CAD/CAM, 3D printing, and laser cutting.

This role will suit someone who is passionate about inclusive education and committed to helping students achieve both academically and personally. The school places strong emphasis on fostering creativity, self-esteem, and employability skills through vocational and design-based learning.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver inspiring DT lessons that encourage creativity, curiosity, and practical skill development.

* Teach across a range of specialisms such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, or Graphics, depending on expertise.

* Differentiate lessons effectively to meet the needs of learners with varied educational and personal profiles.

* Integrate digital technologies and sustainable design principles into the curriculum.

* Maintain a safe and organised workshop environment and promote responsible use of tools and materials.

* Contribute to extracurricular clubs, exhibitions, and enrichment activities that showcase students’ creativity.

* Work collaboratively with therapists, teaching assistants, and support staff to ensure all students thrive.

* Participate in ongoing professional development to further enhance subject knowledge and specialist teaching practice.

About the School

This Independent Specialist School provides high-quality education for students aged 11–18, supporting a range of learning profiles including mild to moderate learning differences, social and communication needs, or SEMH considerations. The school prides itself on providing an inclusive, aspirational environment where every young person is encouraged to succeed both academically and personally.

The Design & Technology Department is a vital part of the school’s creative curriculum. Facilities include modern, fully equipped workshops, CAD suites, laser cutters, 3D printers, and digital design software, providing students with the opportunity to explore design through multiple mediums.

Teachers at the school benefit from small class sizes, an exceptionally supportive leadership team, and a focus on professional wellbeing. The school offers regular CPD, career progression pathways, and a collaborative ethos where staff work closely across departments to deliver integrated, hands-on learning experiences.

Experience and Qualifications

* QTS/PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

* Background in Design & Technology, Product Design, or Engineering.

* Experience working within specialist or inclusive education settings (desirable but not essential).

* Excellent communication, empathy, and classroom management skills.

* Confidence in delivering practical and digital aspects of DT (e.g. CAD/CAM, 3D printing, prototyping).

* Commitment to inspiring creativity and confidence in all learners.

How to Apply

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and compassionate Design & Technology Teachers who are passionate about hands-on learning and helping young people reach their full potential.

Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter detailing their teaching experience, subject specialism, and approach to inclusive education. Early applications are encouraged, as interviews may be scheduled prior to the closing date.
