Overview
Shipfitter (US Navy Submarine) at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery Maine. Onsite position with a focus on repair, maintenance, removal/installation, troubleshooting and associated testing for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) submarine maintenance availabilities to restore and maintain the material condition and modernization of fast attack submarines of the United States Navy.
Responsibilities
* Rip-out, alter, repair, and install ship's structure (frame structure, metal deck plating and grating, hull fittings such as davits and fairleads, chocks, scuttles, sockets and deck rails).
* Template, layout and fabricate structures and fittings including bulkheads, equipment foundations, hangers, ladders, stanchions, brows, accommodation ladders, and guards.
* Remove and install corrosion-prevention plates (Zinc).
* Perform operations: punch, drill, ream, tap, and template cutting.
* Fit-up and make ready for welding, including chipping, nibbling, beveling, hand-grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded.
* Perform excavation of pits or defects in ship's structure, including pressure hull and frames.
* Perform post weld cleaning of ship's structural repair areas.
* Remove and reinstall tank access covers in support of other work.
Qualifications
* 2+ years of related experience, including repair work on nuclear submarines or in a heavy industrial environment performing typical trade tasks.
* HS/GED required.
* U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.
* Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134 (Subpart I).
* Proficient in reading blueprints, layout procedures, drilling and tapping, removal and installation of shipboard foundations, and setting up hot work containments.
* Knowledgeable in fabricating structures and fittings and performing post-weld cleanup; able to prepare surfaces for welding and perform related tasks.
* Strong understanding of shipfitter technical standards and safety requirements (29 CFR 1910.134, 29 CFR 1915 Subparts).
* Demonstrated ability to work on Navy submarine-related projects and maintain a final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation.
Requirements/Notes
US Citizenship required; ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance. Travel may be required; on-site work location: USA ME Bath. The program supports the In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office under PEO SSN to achieve submarine operational readiness.
Work Location & Schedule
Onsite at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery Maine. Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Travel required: 50-75%. Telecommuting options: Onsite.

The likely hourly rate is between $39.56 - $53.52, with final rate based on experience, location, and contractual requirements.
