Job Description:
We are recruiting for a leading General Insurance firm seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their established, growing legal team. The role can be based one day per week from the office or fully remote, depending on the candidate's preference.
The Senior Legal Counsel will report directly to the Group General Counsel and will be instrumental in shaping legal strategy, handling key projects, and supporting business initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
* Advising on group-wide legal and business projects.
* Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, including insurance (distribution, TOBAs, claims handling) and non-insurance contracts (licensing, SaaS, supplier agreements, outsourcing).
* Collaborating with internal teams such as Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Operations.
* Handling regulatory queries and liaising with regulators like FCA and PRA on sector changes.
* Drafting and reviewing policy wordings for retail insurance products, including motor and home insurance.
The ideal candidate will have:
* At least 5 years PQE from private practice or in-house roles within insurance or financial services. Qualified in England & Wales or equivalent.
* Experience in the insurance industry, preferably within retail insurance.
* Proven ability in drafting commercial contracts, insurance and non-insurance, with insurance distribution experience being a major advantage.
* Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience liaising with regulators like PRA and FCA.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of explaining complex legal issues to stakeholders.
