Senior Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure (AMP 8, SROs, WINEP)
Locations: London, Bristol, Manchester (Hybrid)
Egis is rapidly expanding in the UK, delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that address climate challenges. In this role you will work within an agile, multidisciplinary Mechanical Engineering team to design, deliver and support major water and wastewater programmes across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to or lead mechanical design packages, from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, covering major programmes such as AMP8, WINEP, SROs.
* Develop P&IDs, equipment sizing calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules and procurement documentation for assets such as pumps, tanks, pipework and lifting systems.
* Attend site visits to acquire data and liaise with operations staff.
* Engage with technology providers and vendors to support design activities.
* Participate in design risk management (e.g., HAZOP/SWIFT) and provide mechanical input to commissioning strategies and performance testing.
* Support the delivery stage by reviewing contractor submissions, answering design queries and assisting with handover and commissioning.
* Contribute to business development: identify opportunities, shape scopes, prepare bids and support work‑winning activities.
* Mentor and develop team members, contributing to recruitment, training and skill development initiatives.
Qualifications
* BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
* CEng (or on the path to chartership) with a recognised institution such as IMechE.
* Experience delivering mechanical engineering design in the UK water sector, leading significant portions of a project.
* Strong background in preparing and reviewing design deliverables: calculations, specifications, reports, datasheets, schedules, drawings and procurement documents.
* Demonstrated experience in water utilities: treatment facilities, pumping systems, and associated plant.
* Knowledge of UK water industry standards, regulatory expectations, safety‑by‑design/CDM.
* Experience in a consultancy or engineering environment acting as a Mechanical Engineer.
* Ability to integrate work with other disciplines while managing strict programme and budget constraints.
* Proven ability to produce high‑quality technical reports and deliver verbal presentations to senior stakeholders.
* Willingness to travel for site visits and construction sites as required, ensuring all work is performed safely.
Desirable Experience
* Experience in water reuse/recycling, sludge treatment or energy-from-waste projects.
* Experience leading Bid Development activities, shaping proposals, client development and driving service‑line growth.
* Experience in people management: team building, hiring, mentoring and fostering a positive delivery culture.
