An opportunity has arisen for one candidate to join a growing, dynamic and forward‑thinking Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust. The candidate will join a faculty of 22 consultants working across our two hospitals: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital. The post will be based predominantly at West Middlesex Hospital, with the potential to collaborate closely with colleagues at Chelsea in line with the department’s vision.
Qualifications
* Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent.
* Completed higher specialist training or equivalent in Gastroenterology.
* Desirable to hold a higher medical degree (MD or PhD).
* On the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology or within six months of being admitted to the Register if currently in a training programme within the UK.
* Will work under the terms and conditions of the new consultant contract.
Responsibilities
* Organisation and supervision of medical management of patients with gastrointestinal, gastroenterological diseases admitted to the WMUH site.
* Regular consultant‑led ward rounds with a dedicated team of junior doctors (3 SpRs and 1 IMT3 at WMH, 4 SpRs at C+W).
* Referrals: seeing patients with gastro‑enterology related problems on other wards, particularly surgical, acute assessment and critical care units; attendance at MDTs and X‑ray meetings as required.
* Cover both nutrition and general gastroenterology clinics at West Middlesex Hospital; have three outpatient clinics per week (General Gastroenterology) and three endoscopy lists per week, plus an additional Saturday list on the GI bleed rota (1 in 8).
* Specialist GI and Hepatology clinics already exist: IBD, IBD transition/young adult, Hepato‑pancreatobiliary, food allergy, cystic fibrosis, eosinophilic esophagitis, viral hepatitis, colorectal cancer genetics.
* Weekly departmental meetings: consultant clinical meeting; IBD radiology/biologics (alternate weeks Mon lunchtime/Wed AM WMUH); upper GI MDT (C&W Monday am; WMUH Wednesday AM); lower GI MDT (C&W and WMUH Tuesday am); viral hepatitis MDT (Wednesday lunchtime C&W); gastro teaching & journal club (Wednesday morning WMUH); gastro unit meeting (C&W Wednesday lunchtime); combined gastro and hepatology X‑ray meeting (C&W Thursday morning; WMUH Thursday mornings).
* Participate in a 7‑day GI service with endoscopy and inpatient review at weekends; currently the WMUH bleed rota includes a mixed elective/emergency list on Saturday and will remain within a 10 PA job plan with the current 8 DCC and 2 SPA split of PAs.
* Join the GI bleed rota at the WMUH site covering out‑of‑hours endoscopy.
