Job overview

We are recruiting for a Butterfly Volunteer Service Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

An opportunity to manage the award winning Butterfly volunteer service, providing support to patients and those important to them in the last hours and days of life. Raising awareness not only of the service but also of death and dying, encouraging conversations around death and dying.

Main duties of the job

This is a key position to take responsibility for a dynamic service and to lead the volunteer programme that enhances the services provided by the Trust values.

Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as the successful candidate will be engaging with distressed families, supporting volunteers and engaging with external and internal stakeholders. Previous experience of working with volunteers and within a complex organisation is essential. The role will also include line managing the Butterfly service co-ordinator.

Essential criteria

* Qualified to degree level or equivalent
* Evidence of leadership training
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of communication training


Previous Experience


Essential criteria

* Evidence of developing and leading a large scale volunteer programme
* Experience of working in a complex organization, negotiating with multiple decision makers and stakeholders
* Experience of working at a senior level with the ability to communication with all personnel
* Previous experience of leading and managing a team of people with the ability to motivate staff to reach a common goal
* Proven experience good organisational skills such as organising projects and events
* Experience of team working to achieve deadlines and objectives
* Experience of conflict resolution
* Experience of working within a ward environment / NHS


Skills


Essential criteria

* Highly motivated with the drive to build and develop the Butterfly Volunteers service
* Skilled in communicating complex information effectively with senior leaders, volunteers and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and externally
* Excellent verbal, written and data analysis communication skills in a wide variety of settings i.e. face to face, telephone, electronically and written
* Ability to present the strategic direction of the Butterfly service to internal and external stakeholders
* Skills to develop, implement and review policies and procedures
* Strategic thinking and problem-solving under pressure
* Coaching skills, motivational and influential skills to support service negotiations
* Ability to manage multiple tasks, balancing the long term strategic development and short term operational management of multiple projects
* Line management of the Butterfly service co-ordinators role (support to the Butterfly volunteers
* Ability to handle complex and sensitive information in a confidential manner in alignment with Trust policy
* Excellent planning and organisational skills
* Identify and build excellent relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Knowledge of information governance and confidentiality
* Oversight and management of Butterfly volunteer activity – reporting to key stakeholders
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office suite to create reports, presentations and spreadsheets
* Developing and assessing core content of induction and training materials relating to end of life and the Butterfly service

* Experience and evidence of engagement around equality, diversity and inclusion issues in relation to policy, service development and service delivery in respect of both services to users and the management of staff
