Are you a hands-on engineer with a passion for robotics, automation, and solving real-world technical problems? We’re hiring a Field Service Engineer to support advanced lab automation systems across the UK and Europe.

This role suits someone who thrives in customer-facing environments, enjoys travel, and has a knack for diagnosing and fixing complex electromechanical systems — especially within biotech or life sciences settings.

Key Responsibilities

* Install, calibrate, and maintain robotic and automated lab equipment at customer sites

* Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues

* Deliver technical support and training to end users

* Collaborate with software engineers and internal teams to deploy updates and upgrades

* Document service visits, manage spare parts inventory, and contribute to technical knowledge base

* Build strong relationships with clients through proactive communication and support

* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to service excellence initiatives

* Support pre-sales activities including technical demonstrations and client consultations

* Provide feedback to R&D and product teams to improve system performance and reliability

* Ensure compliance with health & safety and regulatory standards during installations and service visits

* Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance across 2–3 client sites per week

Working Hours & Travel

* Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm

* Remote-based contract with travel across Cambridgeshire and nearby regions

* Occasional international travel may be required for senior roles

What We’re Looking For

* HNC, apprenticeship, or degree in mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical engineering

* Ideally 2+ years’ experience in field service, technical support, or lab automation (5+ years for senior level)

* Background in biotech, life sciences, or lab instrumentation preferred

* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently

* Excellent communication skills — both technical and customer-facing

* Valid UK driver’s license

Desirable Experience

* Robotics, lab instrumentation, or industrial automation

* HVAC, firmware, or communication protocols (TCP/IP, RS232)

* Experience with PLC systems, motion control, or vision systems

* Familiarity with GxP environments and documentation standards

* Multilingual skills (European languages) are a plus

Why Apply

* Work with cutting-edge technology in life sciences and automation

* Full training provided with ongoing technical development

* Join a team that values technical excellence, customer success, and continuous learning

* Competitive salary, travel perks, and career development opportunities

* Be part of a growing international service team with a strong reputation in lab automation

* Opportunity to shape the future of robotics in diagnostics, pharma, and biotech
