SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH School (Stoke-on-Trent) Start Date: Immediate / ASAP Contract: Full-time, long-term (temp-to-perm potential) Milk Education is recruiting a resilient, compassionate, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Stoke-on-Trent. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning in a structured and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs. Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning. Help pupils access the curriculum through tailored and differentiated support. Promote positive behaviour using consistent strategies and de-escalation techniques. Build strong, trusting relationships to support pupils’ confidence and wellbeing. Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support individual support plans. Support pupils during transitions and intervention sessions. Essential Requirements: Recent and relevant experience working in an SEMH, SEN, alternative provision, or PRU setting. Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. A proactive, resilient, and adaptable approach. Ability to work effectively under the guidance of teaching staff while using initiative. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
