The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

An opportunity has become available for a part time Payroll Assistant for 31 hours a week on a fixed term contract until 30/11/2025 within the Sussex Payroll team. This role offers agile working - a mixture of working from home and office.

The pay team offer first line customer support to both internal and external customers. The role offers an excellent insight into the different areas of pay and is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to pursue a career in this area.

Performing a wide range of administrative and transactional tasks ensuring they are accurate, timely and efficient so that records are maintained and up to date adhering to GDPR at all times. You will be dealing with a wide range of queries, including pension, tax and NI queries. By nature this role shall require someone who thrives in a busy working environment.

The role shall expose you to a wide range of issues and you will be responsible for assessing the nature of the query before providing advice and guidance to customers, escalating the query to support teams where necessary.

In order to be successful in the role you will have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people. The ability to work as part of a team and on your own is essential. You should also be well-organised, show initiative and adaptability and be committed to delivering excellent customer service across our organisation.

Skills & Experience

Numerate, Literate and able to work in fast paced customer focused environment

* A good standard of general education
* MS Outlook, Excel and Word Skills are essential with strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data
* Organised and methodical with the ability to work under tight time pressures and to strict deadlines
* Demonstrate experience in dealing with customers in person, via email and over the phone. The ability to build good rapport with internal and external stakeholders
* Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult or distressed people, ability to explain complex matters in a straightforward way
* The successful candidate will also need to be a team player, proactive and flexible to support the Force business needs
