Role and responsibilities
* Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective leadership of the ward.
* Assist and support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
* Assess patients, plan, implement care, provide specialist advice and maintain associated records.
* Work autonomously to manage a caseload of patients, acting as a lead, assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing and evaluating care for the designated clinical area.
* Undertake and support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in setting and auditing nursing standards in the department, including the implementation of improvement recommendations.
* Take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimise risk, and ensure incidents and near misses are reported, promoting a no blame culture.
* Create an environment that fosters good communication between patient and health care professionals, meeting individuals' needs.
* Be an effective communicator and a role model in liaising with the community and other members of the health care team.
* Assess the need for, plan, and implement suitable induction and staff development programmes for nursing staff in conjunction with the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to ensure effective care of all patients.
* Assist the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to ensure that all students and newly appointed staff have identified mentors / preceptors.
* Following the re-structure of our cancer nursing team we offer developmental SACT training posts for nurses wishing to pursue a career in haemato-oncology nursing.
* We are seeking experienced, motivated and self-driven Band 6 nurses to join our cancer nursing team on the haemato-oncology ward at Medway Hospital, sharing our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and ensuring our Trust becomes the first choice for patients and staff.
* For the Band 6 post the successful applicant will possess the SACT Passport.
* For the developmental Band 6 post the successful candidate will have a minimum of 18 months post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
* All applicants must demonstrate strong leadership qualities and organisational skills, and be motivated to support the senior sister and act as a role model for junior members of the team.
* You will be able to coordinate the ward, working under your own initiative, prioritising your workload and providing safe nursing care.
* You will gain skills through audits and management of a small team of staff.
* You will have the ability to plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way.
* To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
* To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift confidently.
Salary
Salary: £38,682 - £46,580 per annum/pro rata
