We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist to oversee and manage all aspects of the Club's Sport Science and Medicine Department and act as the Lead Physiotherapist.
The role will work with our Heads of Men's and Women's Cricket, our specialist coaching teams and all those within the Science and Medicine team to develop injury reduction and performance development programmes both for individual players and across the squads.
Responsible for the Emergency Trauma Care and acute injury management of the senior Men's and Women's teams, Men's 2nd X1 and Academy squads.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Optimise player availability and readiness for competitive cricket
• Achieve performance edge for all players across our men's and women's programmes
• Monitor player welfare and fulfil the Club's duty of care
• Liaison with medical officers, psychologists/welfare support, nutritionists and work collaboratively with sports science and medicine practitioners at the ECB and other counties
• Assessment and rehabilitation of injured players across senior squads, Second XI, Academy and Pathway squads
• Lead and co-ordinate ECB requirements for cardiac, concussion, skin and dental screenings with the Chief Medical Officer
• Arrange and co-ordinate consultant intervention, when necessary, in liaison with the Chief Medical Officer
• Manage the set medical fees budget appropriately
• Report back to Coaching staff and the Science and Medicine team in a timely, clear and concise manner on player injuries and prognosis
• Oversee onward referral for investigations and specialist consultations as appropriate, including liaising with medical insurers, medical secretaries and the club Chief Medical Officer and GP (written and verbal communication)
• Development and implementation of all screening, monitoring and injury prevention programmes, working alongside the Strength and Conditioning Coaches - including Cardiac and Concussion screening across squads
• Recording and collation of all relevant injury data
• Provide matchday and training cover
• Appropriate and accurate record keeping of all physiotherapy interventions and notes on the Cricket Squad system in keeping with medico-legal requirements
• Work with and support the development of Assistant Physiotherapist and physiotherapy and sports therapy interns
• Oversee and take responsibility for the medical aspects of the ECB Science and Medicine audit (annual)
• General department management and administration
• Maintain high standards of discipline and work ethic to ensure success and the right image for the Club
• Complete any training modules as required by ECB regulations or CPD
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:
• Advanced Life Support/Pitch-side Qualification (possibility of acquiring this through the Club)
• Registration and current membership with the Health and Care Professions Council and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
• Effective communication skills and inter-personal skills
• Extensive post-graduate experience which includes experience spent in a professional cricket or equivalent full-time professional sporting environment
• Holds a CPD Portfolio demonstrating a sports medicine/sports physiotherapy bias
• Sports massage and taping qualifications/experience
• Adept in the use of Microsoft Excel and electronic medical databases.
