Hope for Justice is a charity working to bring freedom from human trafficking and modern slavery with an effective and proven multi-disciplinary model. Our wholly owned social enterprise, Slave-Free Alliance, provides services to global companies and public bodies seeking to protect their operations and supply chains against the risks of modern slavery and labour exploitation. We have active programmes in the UK, USA, Ethiopia and Uganda, reaching approximately 200,000 adults and children a year.


Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance have staff and volunteers involved in operational support, fundraising or other initiatives in Australia. Hope for Justice exists to bring freedom from human trafficking and modern slavery by identifying victims, supporting survivors and preventing exploitation.

We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Communications Officer to join our Global Digital & Communications Team. This role plays a vital part in raising awareness of our mission and generating support and funds for our charity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, developing and writing compelling content, including human-interest stories, statistics, impact statements and general copy. You will also contribute to media and PR activity, helping to ensure our work and impact reach the widest possible audience.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled communicator with exceptional storytelling ability and strong English language skills. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, be confident working under pressure, and consistently meet deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.


1. Sourcing, researching and writing engaging stories and updates from across the organisation to be shared with key audiences, including donors and potential donors, our email database and social media followers across our main channels.

2. Digital content marketing via the creation and publications of blogs, news stories and static content to boost our organic SEO, driving database growth and donor acquisition in line with organisational + departmental targets and 3-Year Strategy

3. Supplying written content and ideas to other key members of the Comms team to create pieces of content, e.g. Graphic Designers, Social Media Manager, Head of Digital & Comms

4. Copywriting for fundraising campaigns, letters, reports, updates, communications with funders and major donors

5. Working alongside the Head of Digital & Communications to handle journalists’ enquiries and proactively reaching out to media to get coverage of Hope for Justice’s work

6. Writing or editing business-focused case studies to assist with Slave-Free Alliance marketing

For all roles:

Understand and uphold the standards outlined in the Hope for Justice Safeguarding policies, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with our work and reporting concerns if they do arise.


·Ensuring our supporter base and regular donors feel well communicated with and updated about our work at all times, helping ensure donor retention and conversion from occasional to regular giving


·Increased positive coverage of Hope for Justice in the media, including mentions, quotes, interviews, bylined articles and headlines


·Fundraising and donor stewardship communications materials regularly reviewed and refreshed, with positive feedback from individuals and teams

Content and stories provided for our social media posts and campaigns that achieve increased engagement and drive potential donors to our website and appeals, while staying in line with our brand principles, look and tone

Role Details

Job type: part time - 15 hours per week, worked over 2 days

Salary: Up to £11,473.61 based on experience
