Senior Social Worker - Assessment Service Location: Northwest Team (Woking) Contract: Full-time, Permanent, 36 Hours per week Hybrid working: 2 days in the office per week Salary: £46,399 - £49,588 (£6,000 Retention Payment & Up to £8,000 relocation) Contact: Emily Cooper on 07516 975030 / Emily.Cooper@connect2surrey.co.uk We're looking for experienced, resilient social workers who are confident in managing risk, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and want to make a real difference in the lives of children and families. At Surrey County Council, the Assessment Service plays a crucial role in responding quickly to new referrals, assessing immediate needs, and setting families on the right path. We know the work is complex - but when you're supported, equipped and valued, you can thrive in this fast-paced service. And that's exactly what Surrey offers. About the role As a Senior Social Worker within the Northwest Assessment Team (based in Woking), you'll hold professional responsibility for a complex caseload. Your work will focus on carrying out timely, proportionate assessments and interventions that safeguard children and promote positive outcomes. You'll be part of a duty rota where duty is every four weeks, with an average caseload of 18-20 children - a manageable load that allows you to do quality work. During duty weeks, you'll be based in the office full-time, otherwise you'll work in a hybrid pattern, typically spending two days per week in the office. You'll also play a key role in supporting the development of less experienced social workers, NQSWs and students, through supervision, mentoring, and sharing your expertise. Key Responsibilities Take the lead in managing complex child protection and safeguarding cases. Use your professional judgement to complete proportionate assessments and deliver tailored interventions. Support children, families and carers through challenging and fluctuating circumstances. Mentor and supervise NQSWs and students; contribute to reflective supervision and team learning. Promote best practice and help shape a strong team culture through shared knowledge and experience. Maintain accurate, timely records using Liquid Logic. The tools to support you You came into social work to make a difference - not to be buried in bureaucracy. That's why Surrey has invested in smarter systems and streamlined processes - so you can focus on what really matters. Liquid Logic - an intuitive case management system that supports smarter, more efficient working. Tableau - data visualisation software that helps you stay on top of caseloads, deadlines and priorities, so you can manage your time with confidence. Olive - an on-demand e-learning platform to support your continued professional development whenever it suits you. Ongoing CPD opportunities, including the chance to become a Practice Educator, so you can support others while growing your own career. What we're looking for Social Work England registered with a recognised qualification in Social Work. Strong experience working within children's services, including complex safeguarding cases. Skilled in risk assessment, decision-making, and building strong relationships under pressure. A positive, proactive and emotionally intelligent team player who can lead and mentor others.
