Key Tasks
* Oversee daily operations within the distribution department, ensuring seamless and efficient workflow.
* Support the team in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) such as OTIF (On Time in Full), IOC (Internal Order Completion), and IOD (Internal Order Dispatch).
* Foster a high-support, high-challenge culture that drives continuous improvement and maximises departmental profitability.
* Develop and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
* Develop the team to ensure colleagues are multi-skilled across multiple distribution disciplines.
Duties / Responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate distribution activities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of freight.
* Work closely with the Distribution Manager to develop and execute strategic plans for resource allocation and holiday cover.
* Act as the key point of contact for operational issues, proactively resolving challenges to maintain high service standards.
* Monitor and analyse performance metrics, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
* Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety regulations, and industry standards.
* Collaborate with other departments to enhance overall logistics efficiency and customer satisfaction.
* Deputise for the Distribution Manager as needed, assuming leadership responsibilities in their absence.
* Lead, motivate, and develop the distribution team, fostering a positive and results-driven work environment.
Skills and Competencies
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop employees.
* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced logistics environment.
* Proficiency in analysing performance data and implementing process improvements.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently.
* Knowledge of distribution operations, freight handling, and supply chain best practices.
* Familiarity with relevant logistics software and tracking systems.
