About the Role
Charterhouse, one of the world’s leading coeducational independent schools, is seeking an exceptional Deputy Head (Co-curricular) to join our Senior Leadership Team. This pivotal role provides strategic leadership and oversight of the School’s co-curricular provision, ensuring it is a defining, world‑class, and fully integrated element of the Charterhouse education. The co‑curriculum plays a central role in pupil wellbeing, character development, leadership, community engagement, and the School’s culture and reputation.
As Deputy Head (Co‑curricular), you will chair the Co‑Curricular and Calendar Committees, contribute to whole‑school strategy, and manage a strong team of co‑curricular leads. You will oversee areas such as sport, outdoor education, performing arts, music, creative arts, societies, enrichment programmes, and off‑site visits, ensuring they are coherent, inclusive, well‑resourced, and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and vision for the School’s co‑curricular programme, aligning it with the School Development Plan.
* Lead the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of co‑curricular provision with clear success criteria.
* Line‑manage Directors of Sport, Music, Performing Arts, Creative Arts, Outdoor Education, and other co‑curricular leads, fostering collaboration and innovation.
* Oversee systems for participation tracking, staffing allocation, calendaring, reporting, and budgets.
* Ensure safeguarding and pupil welfare are central to all co‑curricular activities, with robust oversight of off‑site visits and outdoor education.
* Promote a culture of high expectations and pride in co‑curricular involvement among staff and pupils.
* Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and the wider community regarding co‑curricular matters.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Proven experience of leading complex provision at scale and managing competing priorities.
* Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to move confidently between vision, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
* Professional credibility and personal authority to lead and influence colleagues at all levels.
* A clear understanding of how the co‑curriculum contributes to educational excellence, pupil wellbeing, and leadership development.
* Emotional intelligence, warmth, and approachability, combined with the capacity to take difficult decisions and hold others to account.
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.
