Specialty Doctor in Respiratory Medicine
The closing date is 19 June 2026.
We wish to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Respiratory Medicine to a new post at St Richard's Hospital. The post-holder will work primarily with the Respiratory team and will undertake routine ward work, support junior staff under the supervision of Consultant respiratory physicians, and participate in outpatient clinics and pleural lists.
Main duties
* Provide middle grade support and manage agreed outlier areas
* Attend pleural lists (1‑2 per week)
* Attend outpatient clinics
* Plan and interpret investigations
* Handle administration generated by clinics
* See and discuss ward referrals
On‑call commitment: to be discussed; participation in Registrar full shift rota (up to 50% on call).
Person Specification
Experience / Qualifications
* MRCP (or working towards Part 2) or appropriate specialist qualification
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
* Four years post‑graduation, with two years in the relevant specialty
* Higher degree
Clinical Skills
* Relevant post‑registration experience – core medical training or GP specialty training with some respiratory experience
* Skills consistent with IMT curriculum
* General respiratory, diagnostic and management skills
Knowledge
* Broad experience in and outside the specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of NHS / Clinical governance / resource constraints
* Evidence of managerial skills – achievements or courses attended
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
Academic & Research
* Evidence of participation in audit
* Research experience
* Publications
* Prizes and honours
Career Progression & Personal Attributes
* Appropriate progression of career to date
* Good communication skills, both oral and written
