Job Description

Model the Future. Solve Complex Challenges. Deliver Lasting Impact. At Mott MacDonald, we believe in using data, science, and innovation to protect our environment and improve lives. As a Graduate Mathematical Modeller, you’ll be part of a dynamic team tackling some of the most pressing global challenges—from climate change and water scarcity to pollution and flood risk.

You’ll work alongside leading experts in environmental engineering, flood risk and water resources, applying advanced modelling techniques to support strategic decisions and sustainable infrastructure. Whether it’s preventing sewage spills, devising nature-based solutions, or minimising the carbon footprint of flood defences, your work will bring tangible benefits to communities and ecosystems around the world.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Hydrodynamic & water quality modelling: Use industry-standard packages (e.g. TUFLOW, Flood Modeller Pro, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, Delft3D) and CFD software (e.g. ANSYS Fluent, Flow-3D) to simulate environmental systems and bring design to life.
* Data analysis & insight: Analyse large datasets to uncover patterns, inform decisions, and provide insight to the processes that drive our society’s environmental impacts.
* Computational innovation: Develop scripts and tools using languages like Python or R to analyse data and enhance visualisations. Pursue innovation in computational design by taking advantage of technologies such as AI, cloud computing, remote sensing and digital twins.
* Collaboration & support: Work with engineers, planners, and asset managers to deliver high-impact solutions, while mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to team development.
* Professional growth: Receive mentoring and training to support your journey toward Chartership and technical specialisation.

We are looking for committed and motivated graduates with a genuine passion and a desire to make a difference in the world. To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months’ relevant experience (excluding placements) and have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (obtained no earlier than 2024) or expected to achieve one, in one of the following degree disciplines:

* Mathematics
* Civil Engineering
* Mechanical Engineering
* Hydrology
