Role: Legal Counsel
Salary: £50, - £55,

Portakabin are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our legal team at our Head Office in York on a permanent basis. You’ll be part of a successful and growing business with ambitious plans. This role may appeal to a newly qualified Legal professional, or someone in practice looking for a challenging role, with a business that promotes and offers work life balance.
You will report to, and be supported by the Head of Legal - you’ll undertake an interesting variety of work with high levels of responsibility and exposure to the business.
As Legal Counsel, you will;
1. Undertake contractual work including accurately drafting, reviewing, advising upon and negotiating contractual engagements with customers (public and private sector) and suppliers. Manage a variety of contracts, including standard form construction contracts (JCT, NEC etc), bespoke customer contracts and frameworks, collaboration agreements, standard supplier terms and amendments to Portakabin terms and conditions (hire and sale).
2. You will be required to support the business and negotiate directly with customers and suppliers.
3. Work closely with the Business Units and Business Functions such that you will be a trusted adviser to colleagues within Portakabin. Provide support to the IP Manager in ensuring the company's intellectual property assets are adequately protected.
4. Maintain expertise and increase knowledge to cover a number of disciplines, including corporate matters (M&A), commercial and construction contracts, intellectual property, compliance and dispute resolution.
5. Support the delivery of the team strategy and be proactive in suggesting better ways of working as a team and with colleagues.
6. Assist the business to resolve disputes with customers and suppliers.
7. Support our European colleagues and deliver consistent advice and support across the whole of the Portakabin group of companies.
8. Support the delivery and implementation of an Ethical Compliance Framework to include areas such as modern slavery, bribery and corruption, fraud, tax evasion, anti-money laundering and competition.
9. Develop and deliver e-learning, resources and in-person training on commercial and legal principles, compliance, and areas of risk to the business.

Our Ideal Candidate!
19. We are looking for someone who has:
20. Qualified as a solicitor (NQ) although experienced paralegals meeting the other criteria will be considered)
21. Strong academics
22. Corporate and commercial experience in private practice or in-house
23. Experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts to manage legal and commercial risk
24. Experience in preparing reports and drafting correspondence
25. Experience in compliance matters (preferred)
26. Experience in construction contracts and construction law (preferred)
27. Commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach
28. A professional, motivated and conscientious attitude
29. Ability to multitask and prioritise own workload
30. Drafting and negotiating skills and excellent attention to detail
