Engineering Team Manager (Android)
Location: Leeds (Hybrid – 2 days per week on-site)
Salary: £95,000–£105,000

An exciting opportunity has been advertised to join one of the UK’s leading banks as an Engineering Team Manager (Android). This role is ideal for an experienced Android Developer who has recently transitioned into leadership and is looking to further grow their impact across both people and product delivery.
As the Engineering Team Manager, you will lead a cross-functional feature team made up of Android developers, API engineers, and QA specialists. Approximately 70% of your time will be dedicated to team management, delivery oversight, and stakeholder engagement, with the remaining 30% focused on hands-on development work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage a high-performing Android development team
* Maintain hands-on involvement in Android development (~30%)
* Oversee project delivery, ensuring alignment with technical roadmaps and business objectives
* Collaborate with mobile teams across the organisation to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
* Engage with stakeholders including Product Owners, Solution Architects, and UI/UX Designers
* Promote a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in Android development, ideally with a strong background in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
* Previous experience in a leadership or managerial role within software engineering
* Solid understanding of clean architecture, design patterns (MVP, MVVM, MVI), and development principles (SOLID, DRY)
* Experience leading engineering projects with a focus on delivery and quality
Familiarity with:
* Native bridging (NS/Native)
* Push notifications
* Analytics and performance monitoring
* Cloud-based services and microservice architectures
* Excellent stakeholder management and cross-team collaboration skills
