PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for BBC Sport Researchers for Sport+ and the Football Content Hub to help develop and deliver compelling content ideas for short, mid long and mid-form projects. The successful candidate will be passionate about sport, have a strong interest in football and have great communication skills. They will have sound judgement and an instinct for stories and content that resonate with audiences, as well as possessing key skills in researching archive and contributors and in editing digital content.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
The Sport+ and Football Content Hub teams deliver projects that drive audience growth on BBC Sport digital platforms, as well as iPlayer and Sounds. The content is audience-driven, high-quality, sport focussed – aimed at entertaining and offering insight. BBC Sport aims to give sport audiences content which keeps them on BBC platforms for longer and makes them feel they get more value from BBC. The researcher roles will be a crucial part of these teams.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Generate original ideas and stories for Sport+ projects and football feature items, developing creative multi-platform storytelling approaches.
* Carry out in-depth research, contribute to creative treatments, and ensure accuracy and relevance of information.
* Support editing and delivery of short-form digital content for BBC Sport platforms.
* Collaborate closely with production teams, contributing to planning, shoot set-up, kit management, and location support.
* Source and clear archive and stills from UK and international copyright holders, ensuring correct delivery and documentation.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including football clubs and the Premier League.
* Identify and book suitable contributors with an awareness of diverse representation, while working to tight deadlines and BBC editorial standards.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Demonstrable passion for a range of sports covered by BBC Sport and for the stories behind sport.
* Experience and knowledge of sports/football production, including identifying key stories, debates and issues, with the ability to provide in-depth research.
* Skill to tell stories in a creative and engaging way across digital or broadcast formats.
* Experience in television, radio, print journalism or interactive platforms, including video and digital editing skills.
* Highly organised communicator with a proactive approach and the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
DESIRABLE
* Experience maintaining communication across editorial and production management teams, working with competing deadlines.
* Proven track record in sourcing and clearing archive, with knowledge of Dalet or similar systems.
* Experience contributing ideas for digital video content and identifying sources, contributors and guests.
* Awareness of how to create content using basic camera skills.
* Flexibility and adaptability to perform effectively under short deadlines and changing priorities.
