Job Title: Zoo Keeper Leisure Employment Type: Temporary Number of Posts: 3 Hours: 37 per week Location: Antrim Road, Belfast, BT36 7PN Pay Rate: £15.82 per hour Job Purpose To work under the direction of the Curator or other responsible officer to carry out animal feeding, cleaning, welfare and enclosure maintenance duties at the Zoo. The role also involves engaging with visitors through talks, tours and events, while maintaining high standards of safety, animal welfare and customer care. Key Responsibilities Provide daily care, feeding and husbandry of zoo animals Clean, maintain and secure animal enclosures Prepare, store and distribute animal food Maintain accurate animal, veterinary and quarantine records Supervise volunteers, students and visitors in animal areas Patrol the Zoo and manage visitor safety and conduct Deliver talks, presentations and support events as required Use and maintain machinery, tools and equipment Apply chemicals safely in line with COSHH and health & safety guidance Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance to enclosures Liaise with vets, contractors, council officers and other stakeholders Follow all policies including health & safety, safeguarding, equality and customer care Essential Criteria Minimum of 1 year relevant zoo-keeping experience Good understanding of animal welfare and modern zoo operations Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to supervise volunteers and visitors Awareness of health and safety responsibilities Desirable (Shortlisting Criteria) 2 or more years zoo-keeping experience Relevant qualification in animal or zoo management (e.g. City & Guilds, Diploma in Zoo or Aquarium Animal Management or equivalent) Additional Information Shift work including weekends and bank holidays Role involves manual handling and walking on uneven and sloped ground Next Steps Contact our office Click apply Email Your cv Skills: zoo keeper animal Animal care Feeding Physical fitness Record-keeping
