Architect Job in East Grinstead, West Sussex
A new or has opened for an Adaptation Team Lead to join an established architectural practice in West Sussex. This is a role with purpose leading projects that transform the lives of people and families affected by life-changing injury or trauma. The practice delivers architectural services across multiple sectors including residential, healthcare, commercial and façade. This role focuses on their specialist adaptation projects, which often arise from personal injury or clinical negligence claims. Working in collaboration with legal teams and client representatives, you’ll help design and deliver homes that improve independence, accessibility and long-term wellbeing.
The work is technically demanding and emotionally engaging. Each project is personal. You’ll need to balance practical design and contract oversight with empathy, resilience and strong communication. This is an ideal opportunity for an Architect or experienced Architectural Technician who thrives in delivery and is motivated by making a tangible difference.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Lead a team within the practice to deliver multiple residential adaptation projects annually, currently approximately 10 per year with the aim of growing the team to deliver 20 per year
2. Have involvement and overview throughout the design process from RIBA Stages 1 – 6
3. Have technical oversight and manage from Stage 3 through to construction and post-completion
4. Oversee contract administration using JCT (minor works, intermediate, occasionally full)
5. Work with other departments in the practice, and long-term look to grow the team
6. Deliver tailored home adaptations to meet the specific needs of individuals who have been injured, including hydrotherapy pools, carer suites, and access adjustments
7. Maintain regular client and site contact
8. Work empathetically with clients and their families, often in post-trauma scenarios.
Required Skills & Experience
9. Strong Stage 5 delivery experience on domestic/residential projects
10. Proven track record administering JCT contracts
11. Revit proficiency is essential
12. Comfortable managing multiple live projects across planning, tender and construction
13. A background in domestic residential work is preferred over purely commercial experience
14. Previous experience in adaptations or high-stakes residential projects is a plus
15. Empathy, patience, and emotional resilience are critical
16. Architect or Technologist considered.

17. £40,000 – £55,000 salary depending on experience
