Main duties of the job
* To support the provision of a comprehensive financial management service to clinical and/or corporate managers within one or more directorates. This involves working closely with budget managers to provide financial management advice and support using information produced by the management accounting team.
* To produce timely and accurate management information, requiring technical knowledge of accounting procedures and an understanding of the operational business of the Trust.
* To work as part of a team supporting one or more Executive Directors, collaborating with a senior management accountant to provide financial information and advice to a defined group of budget holders.
* To assist the senior management accountant in producing monthly budget reports for services within one or more directorates, ensuring accurate data, proper accruals and pre‑payments, reconciling budget movements, monitoring savings plans, and investigating variances.
* To prepare and input journals, correct coding errors, enter monthly commitments and pre‑payments, ensure transactions are correctly authorised, and maintain supporting information.
* To prepare and input budget virements, ensuring adherence to Trust virement policy and procedures.
* To meet regularly with budget holders to discuss financial performance, provide challenge and support, and ensure variances are dealt with to maintain financial control.
* To undertake costings for new developments and service enhancements within the supported service area.
* To assist with the annual budget setting process, including costing an approved staffing establishment and maintaining budget working papers.
* To raise invoices for directorate income correctly and regularly, providing appropriate supporting information for charges.
* To provide advice to budget holders on Trust financial and purchasing systems and interpret financial statements.
* To understand and comply with key financial procedures and policies including Trust Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, and purchasing procedures, and to provide guidance as required.
* To contribute to the production of the Trust Annual Accounts, completing working papers, analysis and returns as directed.
* To complete mandatory training in line with Trust policy and procedures.
* To participate in the staff appraisal process and undertake it for any staff managed.
* To keep updated on all matters relating to Trust policy.
* To provide management supervision where appropriate.

Qualifications
* GSCE Grades A to C
* Excel skills and an interest in a career in accountancy
* AAT or equivalent level 4 qualification in finance, accountancy or business, or equivalent finance experience
* Comprehensive knowledge of management accounting processes
