Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Senior/Principal – Hydropower)
Location: Plymouth, England, United Kingdom (On-site)
Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 per annum + Benefits (depending on experience and grade)
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Hydropower & Dams team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major hydropower and pumped storage projects in the UK and worldwide.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be involved in the design, specification, and delivery of mechanical systems including rotating machinery, pumps, valves, and auxiliary equipment. You will play a key role in providing sustainable, innovative engineering solutions that support the future of renewable energy.

Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and oversee the mechanical design and specification for hydropower projects.
* Undertake feasibility studies, technical audits, and risk assessments.
* Develop cost-effective and sustainable solutions in line with client requirements.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and liaise directly with clients.
* Support procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
Key Knowledge & Skills
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (IMechE) preferred, or working towards.
* 5–10+ years’ experience in mechanical design within the energy or industrial sector.
* Strong knowledge of rotating machinery, pumps, and valve systems.
* Familiarity with 3D modelling (AutoCAD, Revit) and BIM processes (advantageous).
* Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
