Overview
The Nottinghamshire Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) Service is a community based service at the Mandala Centre in Nottingham and is part of the Low Secure and Community Forensic Care Unit. The Notts MBT Service delivers assessment, advice, consultation, training and the delivery of a range of specialised Personality Disorder psychotherapeutic interventions, in group and individual programmes to individuals with highly complex personality disorders across Nottinghamshire, utilising other community bases to deliver interventions where appropriate.
Main duties
* Assess service users referred with severe personality disorder to Notts MBT Service.
* Along with colleagues, deliver highly specialised psychological group and individual treatments for people with severe personality disorder across Nottinghamshire.
* Provide teaching, training programmes and consultation as required to staff across multi-agencies.
* Support operational supervision of peers and provide mentorship, preceptorship, supervision, and support of students/newly appointed staff. Access to robust supervision is provided.

Job description
Job responsibilities
* Work as a member of an integrated multi-disciplinary team that provides intensive psychological and psychosocial treatment to service users with severe and enduring psychological problems.
* Support and work with service users in a collaborative, therapeutic partnership and participate in the development and provision of social/therapeutic activities and psycho-educational programmes for service users (and their family and friends).
* Facilitate group therapy programmes (Mentalization Based Treatment and Cognitive Analytic Therapy informed).
* Be involved in the provision of training programmes and consultation to staff across a range of agencies in contact with people with personality disorder. The post holder will be expected to work across the Service.
Please note: applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary in the first two months of employment (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced). Enrolment in the DBS Update Service is encouraged (£16 per year).
Person Specification
Essential
* Recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions to Degree level (e.g., psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, social work, occupational therapy) or post-graduate therapy training (e.g., CBT therapy, psychological wellbeing practitioner, HCPC/BACP/UKCP registered psychotherapy).
* Substantial post-registration experience in mental health, including post-graduate experience in delivering psychological interventions.
Desirable
* Post basic qualification in working with people with a Personality Disorder.

* Experience in maintaining records per Trust policies and supervising other clinicians.
* Experience in facilitating group treatment programmes.
* Experience with computer systems.
Knowledge
* Awareness of vulnerabilities including mental health/LD needs; confidentiality and professional responsibilities; planning and delivering therapeutic interventions.
* Understanding of cultural and diversity needs; maintaining workplace boundaries; knowledge of psychotherapies (MBT, CBT, CAT).
* Sound knowledge of CPA, risk assessment/management, safeguarding, and the Mental Health Act.
Skills
* Specialist skills in planning and delivering group and individual treatments for complex cases; accurate record-keeping; motivating others; effective communication with diverse audiences.
* Ability to identify development needs and risks; participate in service development; work with various agencies; manage high levels of emotional distress; contribute to service evaluation.
Contractual and Physical Requirements
* Adaptability and willingness to travel to different sites.
* Ability to undertake mandatory training and manage violence and aggression to breakaway level; must be able to travel around the community; ability to engage with distressing clinical material.
