HR Advisor
Canterbury Cathedral is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. We are looking for a HR Advisor to support the Cathedral Strategic and Delivery Plans.
Salary & Closing Date
Salary: 35000. Closing date: 12‑Sep‑25.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and administer all aspects of the recruitment process, draft and place recruitment adverts, arrange and attend interviews, and support managers in this process.
* Draft permanent staff employment contracts and letters of employment.
* Support the team with maintenance of the HR databases, including Sage HR.
* Maintain the learning database and issue refresher training when required.
* Deal with general HR‑related correspondence and queries from employees.
* Oversee the recruitment of Apprentices and liaise with college providers as needed.
* Prepare, organise and deliver staff inductions.
* Ensure due diligence is maintained in line with Safer Recruitment.
* Support the HR Manager with projects.
* Advise managers on policy and process according to legislation and organisational requirements.
* Carry out the administration of staff appraisal and probation, highlighting concerns to the HR Manager.
* Assist with Disclosure & Barring Service checks, acting as a counter‑signatory to this process.
* Assist the HR Manager with the exit interview process, support continuous improvement plans and report to the Senior Leadership Team.
* Take detailed and accurate notes at disciplinary and grievance meetings when requested.
* Co‑ordinate occupational health referrals when requested.
* Ensure professionalism and confidentiality are always maintained.
* Carry out any other reasonable task as required and work flexibly to provide cover for the department.
Person Specification
* CIPD qualification, minimum level 3
* High standard of education
* At least 2 years experience in a similar position
* Excellent IT skills, especially Microsoft Outlook and Word
* Experience in the use of databases, particularly Excel
* Excellent organisational skills
* Excellent standard of written English
* Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and purposes of the Cathedral, its mission and ministry
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
* Qualified to a Level 5 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development standard
* Knowledge and experience of records management
* Accounting or Payroll qualification
