Overview
Family & Systemic Psychotherapist preceptorship role at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. In a preceptorship role, it is expected that you will progress within 18-24 months post-qualification to band 8a.
Location: Maple Team, Bexley CAMHS, providing specialist mental health care for children and young people from birth to 18 years with their parents/families/carers. The service offers specialist assessment and treatment for children and young people with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties, with a rapid response service for adolescents at risk of inpatient admission.
Responsibilities
* Provide a CAMHS team with a high quality, evidence-based systemic psychotherapy service to children, their families, carers and professional networks, in keeping with CYP-IAPT principles.
* Provide specialist systemic assessment and therapy to families referred to CAMHS.
* Offer specialist advice and consultation regarding diagnoses and treatment to CAMHS colleagues and external agencies, working autonomously within professional guidelines within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Contribute to the development, implementation and audit of services for families presenting to the Service.
* Deliver specialist systemic psychotherapy with clinical autonomy, drawing on a range of models and incorporating brief interventions where possible, while ensuring inclusivity for individuals in the family system.
* Make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options, considering complex historical and developmental factors.
* Maintain autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of clients, including risk assessment and management within the multi-professional mental health context.
* Collaborate with team members to enhance work with families and provide specialist knowledge and skills; provide consultation and guidance to other professionals within the service and partner agencies.
* Lead on agreed areas of service development and participate in service delivery and development activities as required.
* Attend monthly professionals and team meetings; participate in duty and triage rota as applicable.
Clinical practice and models
* Utilise systemic approaches including family therapy, individual work, chairing professional and network meetings, and liaising with other agencies.
* Apply service-wide procedures, including risk assessment, care planning, and engagement with families in diverse backgrounds and family structures.
* Use video equipment appropriately to support assessment and therapy; provide training and guidance to colleagues on its use where relevant.
* Act as care coordinator when required, initiating and reviewing care plans and coordinating complex professional network meetings.
Leadership and Collaboration
* Work in accordance with CAMHS objectives and Trust policies, maintaining up-to-date records and contributing systemic perspective to case discussions and team meetings.
* Be an active member of the Family Therapy Clinic and contribute to service development and evaluation.
* Lead on a specified area of service development and provide supervision, teaching and in-house consultation as needed.
Research and Education
* Use theory, evidence-based literature and research to inform practice; participate in relevant clinical research, service evaluation and audits.
* Provide research guidance to staff undertaking research within the team; initiate and implement project management to improve service provision.
Communication and Relationships
* Maintain effective communication with multi-disciplinary teams, NHS professionals, external agencies, education sector partners, social services and other stakeholders.
* Prepare complex clinical information for reports and Child Protection Conferences; be prepared to attend Court hearings as required.
* Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and stay informed on legislation and policy related to the client group and mental health.
