A senior technical role focused on keeping core systems reliable, secure, and ready for the future.
This position suits an experienced Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys ownership and responsibility. This role would suit someone who wants to look after critical infrastructure, resolve complex issues, and help shape how networks and platforms evolve over time. You’ll work within an established internal IT team, supporting an environment that needs to be both stable and resilient.
All candidates must be within 1 hour of Cambridge. The role will be predominantly onsite.
Role Style & Setup
This is a hands‑on infrastructure role with a balance of operational responsibility and improvement work. You’ll act as an escalation point for complex technical issues while also contributing to planned upgrades, security improvements, and system modernisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and improve the organisation’s core network and connectivity services
* Ensure infrastructure is secure, resilient, and performing as expected
* Support the network roadmap and network strategy
* Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, refreshes, and improvement initiatives
* Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues
* Produce and maintain clear technical documentation
Skills & Experience Required
* Strong experience supporting enterprise networking and infrastructure
* Confident working with firewalls, switching, wireless, and VPN technologies
* Experience supporting server, virtualisation, and directory services
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and identity platforms
* Solid understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals
* Ability to troubleshoot complex issues calmly and methodically
This is a senior position and wouldn’t be suitable for someone looking to get into their first Network/Infrastructure Engineer position – we need someone experienced for this role.
