Job Title: Social Communication Support Worker
Location: Wakefield
Contract Type: Long term with the view to going permanent for the right candidate
Leader Education are recruiting a Social Communication Support Worker to work at both small and large SEND Schools based in Wakefield. The ideal candidate will have The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with complex needs, including but not limited to those with autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, and communication difficulties.
The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30am until 4pm and is a long term position.
As part of the role as a Social Communication Support Worker, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to.
* Provide support and assistance to individuals with complex needs
* Assist individuals in developing and improving their communication skills, which could include using British Sign Language (BSL) and/or Makaton.
* Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes independence, dignity, and respect.
* Monitor and document individual progress, behaviours, and any changes in needs or preferences.
The successful candidate will have:
* Previous experience working with individuals with complex needs, preferably within the last 2 years.
* Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) and/or Makaton.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules.
* Relevant qualifications or certifications in health and social care, education, or related fields are desirable but not essential.
