Overview
Electrical Engineer_Facility – [Desired start date] December 2025
Dimensions: All Production Plant, Process lines and associated equipment, Facility’s including infra-structure. All production and facility electrical systems across the site.
Role Purpose
To manage all electrical equipment associated with manufacturing processes. Support project engineering on current and new process developments. Lead the Electrical Team with support from the Maintenance Superintendent. Control System management will be supported by the Electrical Development Engineer.
Key Accountabilities
* Electrical Equipment - Accountable for all electrical repairs and maintenance activities to equipment and facilities within the site, including controls, LV and HV systems.
* Ensure all maintenance and project activities comply with statutory and Company requirements related to Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety.
* Assist with design procurement, factory testing and commissioning of equipment, machinery, and facilities required for the new submarine power cable plant.
* Assist with electrical maintenance in the submarine power cable plant once operational (reactive and planned maintenance).
* Lead development of repair procedures and safe systems of work, maximise available work hours while monitoring hazards.
* Assist in ensuring all electrical planned maintenance procedures are developed and approved prior to plant operation.
* Lead electrical continuous improvement of MTBF using historic PM data to increase availability.
* Lead electrical continuous improvement of MTTR by purchasing critical spare parts and building a local supply network to increase availability.
* Assist with ensuring the Asset Management System is developed ahead of operations.
* Electrical Team - Efficient allocation of internal and external electrical craft resources to maximise plant availability and product quality.
* Responsible for electrical uptime of all equipment; scope electrical work and resource requirements and timelines.
* Champion root cause investigation to eliminate failures.
* Provide technical leadership, professional advice and guidance to all electrical technicians.
* Responsible, with the Facility's Engineering Manager, for electrical maintenance staff performance and development, including Performance Evaluations.
* Maintenance Strategy - Develop and implement maintenance strategy to maximise department efficiency (corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance).
* Assist with planning, budgeting and scheduling facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, machines and related costs; work closely with colleagues in the Nigg factory and in Japan.
* Assist with introducing and maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and related standards.
* Partnerships and Teamwork - Collaborate with the facility engineering department and production department; work with SMEs at Headquarters and external consultants as required.
* Assist in the design, commissioning and maintenance of new and current assets to maintain operational performance.
* Produce and analyse facility-related trends and engineer solutions with external vendors and contractors as needed.
* Special Aspects - Experience in implementing different maintenance systems and strategies; estimate workload resource requirements and timescales.
* Produce equipment uptime/downtime trends and develop solutions for known problems.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience at a relevant engineering-management level.
* Proven experience and success in a similar role.
* Significant experience in electrical engineering for heavy industry/manufacturing.
* Experience with HV systems and infrastructure; relevant training.
* Experience in electrical major construction projects is advantageous but not essential.
* Experience working with contractors and OEMs.
* 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
* Strong technical understanding of electrical engineering concepts with interfaces to mechanical engineering activities.
* Experience in design, writing and commissioning PLC code.
* Experience of continuous manufacturing processes is desirable.
* Strong management style and communication skills.
* Experience in electrical health and safety, preferably with a relevant qualification.
* Experience in estimation, planning and implementation of workload within a multifunctional team.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Proven ability to plan and resource both planned and emergency shutdowns to lines.
Other Information
* Initially this position will be based in the Inverness office, with travel including overseas requirements.
* This position will largely be based in Easter Ross once main manufacturing equipment installation starts.
* Training opportunities will be provided to network with key players in the mother plant in Japan to learn about processes or vendors of machinery.
