Overview

To provide occupational therapy service to service users who have a variety of occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health conditions, cognitive and/or learning disabilities under the direction of a more experienced member of Occupational Therapy staff.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence. To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity. To provide clinical supervision to staff members as delegated by Clinical Lead. To incorporate a client centred philosophy into clinical practice and client centred collaborative care.


Responsibilities

* To manage and provide ongoing assessment and intervention for service users.
* To consider carer needs and ensure carer and family are involved in intervention planning where appropriate.
* To develop and deliver evidenced based Occupational Therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and carers where appropriate.
* To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to high quality, individualised care that promotes safety, recovery, wellbeing and independence.
* To provide compassionate, respectful, dignified care.
* To provide clinical supervision to staff members as delegated by the Clinical Lead.
* To incorporate a client centred philosophy into clinical practice and client centred collaborative care.


Communication & Relationships

* Work collaboratively with colleagues directly involved in the delivery of Occupational Therapy, both in the community and hospital in-patient settings, and develop networks with other community resources and providers (statutory and non-statutory).
* Communicate clinical assessments and interventions to service users and carers in an understandable manner promoting wellbeing and hope.
* Demonstrate the ability to overcome barriers to communication, supporting service users’ understanding by adapting the approach used (e.g. interpreters for language needs, alternative and augmentative communication methods).
* Develop interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain therapeutic partnerships with service users and carers in the delivery of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions.
* Develop negotiating, empathetic and motivational skills to manage complex and sensitive discussions while maintaining professionalism.
* Undertake assessment, intervention and evaluation of service users presenting with a variety of complex occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and ranges of mental health conditions, neurological conditions, cognitive and/or learning disabilities.
* Exercise clinical and professional judgement potentially in conflict with other professions or the service user.
* Assess capacity to give informed consent and seek additional advice when necessary.
* Advocate on behalf of service users and carers to ensure statutory responsibilities are met.
* Demonstrate clinical reasoning when selecting appropriate treatments/interventions, considering clinical presentation, risk, vulnerability and engagement willingness.
* Reflect and critically appraise own performance and seek advice from more experienced clinicians when needed.
* Assess and manage risks to service users and others, including complex risks and potential harm to self or others.
* Formulate appropriate interventions and risk/safety planning with support from colleagues or other services as required.
* Understand and apply policies and procedures to meet statutory responsibilities.


Planning and Organisational Skills

* Manage a caseload of service users following comprehensive assessment under supervision.
* Manage own time within service requirements; prioritise caseload and workload with support and supervision.
* Facilitate timely goals and interventions with service users using evidence-based interventions.
* Meet deadlines for reports in accordance with statutory requirements and provide timely professional reports as requested by the MDT and clinical/line managers.

Essential Requirements

* Ability to act as part of a team
* Ability to cope with a varying workload
* IELTS (7.5 overall with 7.0 in each module) or OET: Overall Grade B for Overseas AHP Professionals
* HCPC Registration Required (Health & Care Professions Council) — Essential
* DBS Disclosure: employment for staff with access to children/vulnerable adults will require satisfactory DBS; international police checks or character references for overseas candidates may be needed
