Role Description
Reader Volunteer for Person We Support
Location: Maidstone
Time Commitment: Minimum of 1 hour per week
We are looking for someone to help a person we support learn to read. If you enjoy reading, then this is the role for you! It would be great if you have a background in teaching and education (especially in SEN), but don't worry if you don't. We are looking for someone who is keen to help others learn to read, friendly, and loves to chat. The person you'd be reading with has a visual impairment, so patience is important. This role is based at our service in Maidstone.
Skills required
* To love to read and ideally have a background in teaching and education
* To have a good sense of humour, love to chat and be a good listener
* To be punctual and reliable
* To be kind, empathetic, and patient
* To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures
* To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guide/orientation
Please note that you will need to be over the age of 18 to apply for this role. To apply, click on the 'apply' button below and complete the application form. A member of our Volunteering Team will contact you for an informal chat and to explain the next steps. To ensure the safety of the people we support, a DBS check and two satisfactory references are required before confirming the role. You will also need to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any role-specific training.
