Job Summary
NHS Lanarkshire – University Hospital Wishaw is seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist with an interest in Hepatology. This substantive post is a key step in establishing a dedicated hepatology service at UHW. The successful candidate will work closely with a full‑time Hepatologist at University Hospital Hairmyres and a part‑time colleague at Monklands, and will lead and support the newly funded Haemochromatosis service.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical care across the NHS Lanarkshire gastroenterology service, including inpatient care, outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists (including ERCP) and general medical take‑overs.
* Lead and support the Haemochromatosis service.
* Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Specialists and specialist nurses for IBD, liver disease and secretarial support.
* Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives and medical education.
* Engage in research, development and act as an appraiser as required.
Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified Consultant Gastroenterologist with demonstrated interest and experience in hepatology.
* Experience working within a multi‑site NHS gastroenterology department.
* Ability to develop and support specialist services.
* Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and medical education.
