Job Duties

Norfolk State University, a proud Historically Black College and University (HBCU), invites
applications for a full-time Tv Studio Technician within the Department of Mass
Communications and Journalism (MCJR). Located in Norfolk, Virginia, within a top-fifty
media market, our university provides opportunities for professional collaboration and

Responsibilities
 Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform minor bench repairs on studio and broadcast
equipment.
 Design, install, and maintain the operational needs of TV studio, control room, audio mixer rooms, electronic field production equipment, and associated systems.
 Conduct system upgrades, scheduling, documentation, technical inventories, budget
requests, and related clerical and administrative tasks.
 Maintain and program Carousel/Cablecast computers, Extron Live Streamer, and the
Residential Life Movie computer for campus cable channels.
 Provide training and mentorship to faculty, staff, student workers, and graduate
students on technical equipment use and maintenance.
 Collaborate with campus media outlets, including The Spartan Echo and WNSB-FM, and
work closely with local vendors and the Athletic Department to support broadcast and
closed-circuit systems.

Minimum Qualifications

 Minimum of a two-year associate degree in electronic engineering or information
technology curriculum, or electronic military service background.
 Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in broadcast systems
engineering or technical operations.
 Demonstrated expertise in studio and field production equipment, IP-based broadcast
systems, and digital editing suites.
 Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on broadcast and
media equipment.
 Ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with students, faculty and other
university staff.

Additional Considerations

Preferred Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Broadcast Engineering, or a closely
related field.
 Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Certification.
 Experience in higher education or a teaching environment.
 Proficiency in troubleshooting RF transmission systems.
 Familiarity with AVID, Adobe Creative Cloud, Ross Video, NewTek, Extron systems, and
Cablecast/Carousel programming.
 Knowledge of IP networking, signal routing, and streaming technologies.
 Ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
