Overview

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. We aim to employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people. Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a district with thriving market towns and many attractive villages. We are an innovative local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), which support our purpose of putting customers first.

Job details

If you’re passionate about safer communities, confident working with people from all walks of life and motivated by making a real and lasting impact, this could be the role for you.

A bit about the role

As a Community Safety Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our work to prevent and address crime, anti-social behaviour and community harm across Huntingdonshire.

Every day brings something different: responding to incidents, supporting vulnerable residents, gathering evidence and working directly with victims, witnesses and perpetrators to find fair, proportionate and effective solutions. You’ll use your creativity and problem-solving skills to address complex issues, always aiming for early intervention and long-term prevention.

Partnership is central to this role. You’ll work closely with the police, social care, probation, youth offending services, schools, local councils and community groups. You’ll lead and coordinate multi-agency meetings, contribute to district-wide initiatives, and help deliver projects linked to the Community Safety Partnership and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s priorities, including work under the Serious Violence Duty.

You may also prepare case files, present evidence in court or support community engagement events that promote safety, awareness and resilience.

This role combines operational activity with strategic thinking. You’ll help shape how we respond to emerging issues, identify risks and trends and contribute to prevention campaigns that make our communities safer and stronger.

A bit about you

You’ll ideally have experience in community safety, anti-social behaviour, enforcement, criminal investigation or a similar environment, along with sound knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice.

You’re confident managing challenging conversations, able to remain calm under pressure and skilled at building trust with people who may be distressed, angry or vulnerable. You work well independently, but you also thrive in a team and enjoy collaborating with partners to achieve positive outcomes.

You’re highly organised, comfortable managing a varied caseload and confident using information systems to record and analyse data. You can write clear, detailed reports, make evidence-based decisions and present information effectively to colleagues, partners or the courts.

Most importantly, you care about making a difference, you value fairness and safeguarding and you bring empathy, resilience and professionalism to everything you do.

The role is 37 hours a week, working within HDC’s flexible working policy.

The post holder will require vetting/DBS, prior to start of employment.

A full UK manual driving licence is essential.
