Responsibilities

* Post holders will support the Clinical Leads & Educators to deliver a high‑quality education service across the Trust through the application of their specialist knowledge and skills, offering assistance and advice within their scope of practise to staff both internal and external to the department.
* Support the education management team in ensuring the smooth running of courses across the educational pathway.
* Present a positive image of education to all users, promote it as a first‑class venue for learning, and identify and implement service improvements in conjunction with the senior management team.
* Support the Clinical Education Department by setting up for courses, conferences and meetings held across the Trust's education function.
* Provide support to the Rotational Technicians with stock management, control and ordering to maintain adequate stock levels across the department.
* Take a leadership role in the administration of the Trust‑wide room booking system across the educational pathway, ensuring rooms are fit for purpose and ready for use under guidance of the Specialist Technician Team Leader.
* Liaise with different departments across the organisation to understand their AV requirements, providing guidance and assistance to support educational services.
* Provide first‑line technical expertise for computer‑based multimedia systems and their components.
* In conjunction with the Rotational Technicians, ensure that AV / Simulation kit / part‑task trainers are fit for purpose and fully operational, providing maintenance where required and reporting any major faults to the Specialist Technician Team Leader.
* Ensure classrooms are ready for educational delivery, focusing on the functionality of high‑fidelity simulation equipment and bespoke audio‑visual equipment.
* Assist with the transfer of equipment across the department and wider organisation, including pre‑course set‑up where required.
* Assist learners or patients at large educational events such as ALS / LOCAS by giving directions, escorting across the site or performing any other appropriate task.
* On a daily basis, provide leadership for all technical elements of all courses, ensuring safe and efficient use of a range of equipment and supplies including low, medium and high‑fidelity full‑body patient simulators, IT and audio‑visual equipment.
* Have a full working knowledge of the role of a Simulation Technician, including preparation of equipment for training such as the application of moulage to create the illusion of injury and performing the role of the controller during simulated teaching scenarios.
* Perform all associated roles and responsibilities of the Rotational Technicians to ensure good resilience and mentorship within the department.
* Have a good knowledge of the health and safety legislation regarding AV equipment, providing advice on how the Trust can comply.
* Use training, knowledge and experience to provide video creation/editing functions as required by Clinical Education to ensure high‑quality clinical videos supplement new or existing education.
* Support the organisation to develop and deliver conference facilities.
* Assist the Specialist Technician Team Leader with the development and upkeep of the department's intranet and social pages.


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent qualifications, including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
* Evidence of continuous professional development and demonstrable experience working within an educational or NHS environment.
* Experience working with mannequins or part‑task trainers within an educational setting.
* Experience with simulation or AV technical components and their application within education.
* Experience of leadership and creating a positive team culture.


Desirable Qualifications

* Experience of stock taking/managing replenishment and knowledge of MS Office applications.
* Knowledge of video creation/editing or willingness to develop these skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and build effective relationships.
* Discretion in handling sensitive or confidential information.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work flexibly.
* Consistently high attention to detail and quality of work.
* Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds.
* Commitment to providing a high‑quality clinical education service.
* Ability to work well in a small team with good interpersonal skills and a supportive attitude towards colleagues' well‑being, understanding empathy and sensitivity where required.
* Can utilise own autonomy within scope of practise and willingness to work flexibly at all LUFHT sites where required.
* Ability and willingness to undertake and successfully achieve further training as required for the role.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020; a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
