Hours: Permanent, full time role (35 hours per week) with hybrid and flexible working. You'll spend 3 days per week collaborating with colleagues at our Head Office in Skipton.

Do you want to shape how Internal Audit delivers insight, drives improvement and uses data and innovation to influence decision‑making at a strategic level? We’re recruiting an Internal Audit – Professional Practices Specialist to help evolve our audit practices, reporting and insight.

Who Are We?

We’re the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we’re a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we’re owned by our members. Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do. Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we’ll help you take the next step towards a better future.

Team Overview

GIA (Group Internal Audit) is a high‑performing team of over 35 colleagues. You'll work with teams delivering audit and assurance reviews across Skipton Building Society. Your work helps safeguard customers and stakeholders by ensuring key risks are well managed. GIA is structured across three core specialisms: Financial and Prudential Risk; Operational and Conduct Risk; IT and Change.

Beyond assurance, we’re driving innovation – leveraging data analytics, storytelling in reporting and exploring AI to transform the audit journey. Within this, you will join the Professional Practices function, working closely with Audit Leads, the Professional Development Lead and the wider GIA Senior Leadership Team. This is a key role focused on enhancing methodology, quality and reporting, ensuring GIA continues to evolve and deliver maximum impact across the Group.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the development and continuous improvement of GIA’s audit methodology, ensuring alignment to professional standards and evolving business needs.
* Enhance and support delivery of GIA’s quality assurance and continuous improvement programme.
* Lead and develop GIA’s management information and reporting, ensuring we are reporting the right things, at the right time.
* Shape the future state of reporting within GIA – identifying opportunities to improve insight, efficiency and impact.
* Deliver meaningful, insight‑led reporting to senior stakeholders and committees.
* Support delivery of GIA’s strategy, vision and people plan, including coaching and developing colleagues.

What We’re Looking For

* Experience of working within Internal Audit and a strong understanding of audit methodologies and standards.
* Strong analytical and data capability, with the ability to turn MI into clear, valuable insights.
* A continuous improvement mindset, with a passion for enhancing processes, reporting and ways of working (relevant certification would be beneficial, but not essential).
* An ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
* Experience of developing others through coaching or knowledge sharing.
* A proactive, curious mindset with the confidence to provide constructive challenge and drive improvement.
* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
* Financial services experience – advantageous.

What’s In It For You?

* Annual discretionary bonus scheme.
* 25 days standard annual leave plus bank holidays plus rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days.
* Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days.
* Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum).
* Colleague mortgage (conditions apply).
* Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car.
* A commitment to training and development.
* Private medical insurance for all our colleagues.
* 3 paid volunteering days per annum.
* Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups.
* Cycle to work initiative.
* Discounted gym membership.
