Overview
We are seeking a Finds Liaison Assistant (FLA) to work alongside the Senior Finds Liaison Officer (SFLO) for the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) across County Durham and Teesside. The role is part‑time (30 hours per week) until March 2027, with potential extension.
Responsibilities
* Operate the PAS in County Durham and Teesside under the direction of the SFLO.
* Encourage participation in the PAS and facilitate the administration of the Treasure Act (1996).
* Identify and record archaeological objects found by members of the public.
* Enter data into the national PAS database and provide information to the local authority’s Historic Environment Record.
* Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness of the importance of recording finds at local, regional and national levels.
* Attend events and meetings, including those held in the evening and at weekends at other sites and venues.
Qualifications
* Ideally educated to degree level or higher, or with considerable relevant experience.
* Keen interest and enthusiasm for research and archaeology.
* Highly motivated with excellent communication skills, enabling work across the region in promotion of the Scheme.
* Knowledge and experience of metal‑detecting, Treasure legislation and archaeology (particularly material culture).

Interview and Selection
Interviews will be held during the week commencing 13th July 2026. The position includes a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants who meet essential criteria and are disabled, a looked‑after young person, care leaver or a veteran.
