Overview
At St Peters Hospital we have a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department situated alongside the general A&E Department. It is open 24/7 and staffed by an exceptional team of paediatricians and nurses delivering high quality care.
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and committed Children trained nurse to join our team as a Band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide visible, credible clinical leadership for the paediatric ED nursing team on a shift-basis.
* Deliver high quality, research‑based caring that is patient, family focused.
* Ensure safe, efficient patient flow from ED through to ward, including admission, transfer and discharge.
* Act as a role model and mentor for junior nurses, facilitating professional development and fostering a learning environment.
* Lead clinical governance, audit and research activities, supporting continuous improvement.
* Manage staff wellbeing, staffing allocation and shift planning to maintain safe clinical coverage.
* Champion infection control and environmental cleanliness standards across the department.
* Delegate and empower the nursing team, promoting collaborative practice across multidisciplinary teams.
* Maintain professional knowledge and competence, contributing to nursing education and NMC Code of Conduct.
* Uphold health, safety and security standards, including safe drug administration, body fluid handling and incident reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
* Advanced practice nursing qualification (e.g., advanced practice in paediatric nursing).
* Experience leading clinical teams in an emergency or paediatric setting.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage staff and patient flow.
* Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and research.
* Safely administer medication and handle body fluids.
* Commitment to professional development and adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct.
