Orthopaedic Consultant (Remote)
Role Summary
Provide virtual specialist orthopaedic care to patients, triage referrals, give advice, arrange investigations, recommend telephone clerking, document care on Medefers Secure IT platform, and complete NHS outcome data. Work flexibly with no set minimum hours.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide virtual specialist care to patients within orthopaedics.
* Review and triage referrals.
* Advise and guide GPs, request and follow up investigations, write onward referrals.
* Recommend telephone clerking assessments by registrars or advanced nurse practitioners.
* Follow up investigation results with patients, GPs, and hospital departments.
* Create clinical management plans including prescribing.
* Document patient information and plans of care via Medefers Secure IT platform.
* Complete patient outcome data fields for NHS England tracking.
* Respond to complaints and concerns as necessary.
* Engage in appraisal and revalidation processes.
Qualifications & Experience
* Orthopaedic Consultant with at least 12 months NHS experience.
* Registered with GMC, active licence, on Specialist Register with up‑to‑date documents.
* Active NHS role with annual appraisal, quality review and audit participation.
* Interest in digital health, clinical informatics and new ways of working.
* Excellent time‑management, planning, prioritising, interpersonal and written communication skills.
* Experience in conflict resolution and collaborative practice.
* Attention to detail and accurate information processing.
Contract & Working Pattern
Contract – Permanent (self‑employed or via personal services company). Flexibly 0–40+ hours per week from a secure home setting with reliable internet.
Salary
Depends on experience (subject to NHS standards for consultant orthopaedics).
