Speech & Language Therapy Team Leader, Adult Community Team

This Band 8a Speech & Language Therapist role invites you to lead a highly experienced adult community team in Sheffield, focusing on swallowing and communication disorders. You will provide care for service users in their homes or care/residential settings and collaborate with acute, specialist, social care and voluntary sector colleagues, while enjoying protected time for professional development.
Main duties of the job
* Provide leadership and clinical speech and language therapy services within the Adult Community SLT team.
* Continue to deliver highly specialist assessment and management of communication disorders and dysphagia.
* Ensure the team operates efficiently and effectively to provide the best care in people’s own homes or care homes.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification (1st degree level or equivalent).
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and the Health & Care Professions Council.
* Evidence of highly specialised continuing professional development.
* Post‑graduate training in dysphagia management.
* Evidence of successful completion of post‑graduate specialist short‑course up to Masters level or equivalent.
* Evidence of leadership courses or training.
Desirable qualifications
* Evidence of successful completion of management short courses or management skills obtained through experience.
Experience – Essential criteria
* Extensive and in‑depth experience of relevant clinical area.
* Significant involvement in development and delivery of training packages.
* Experience supervising more junior staff.
* Highly specialist knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions for relevant client groups.
* Ability to negotiate and influence at consultant level across the multidisciplinary team and with key stakeholders.
* Highly specialist knowledge of current diagnostic and management issues across the multi‑disciplinary team related to the specialist area.
Experience – Desirable criteria
* Significant experience of post‑graduate teaching in specialist area.
* Evidence of published research in peer‑review journals.
* Theoretical and practical competencies to carry out Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluations of Swallowing (FEES).
* Theoretical and practical competencies to carry out VFS, ideally MBSiMP certified.
* Ability to lead in an inter‑professional/inter‑agency context to benefit client groups.
* Ability to use and interrogate electronic patient systems such as SystmOne.
Special Skills / Aptitude – Essential criteria
* Excellent auditory and perceptual skills.
* Competent use of IT for everyday communication and presentation packages.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Evidence of ability to manage highly specialist and complex caseload independently.
Special Skills / Aptitude – Desirable criteria
* Enhanced skills in Microsoft Office including Excel for data analysis, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
Other factors – Essential criteria
* Extensive portfolio and evidence of CPD with identifiable outcomes.
* Valid UK driving licence with car or alternative means of transport.
