JAB Recruitment is currently looking to source a Technical Superintendent role on behalf of our client, located in Westhill. This is a full-time, permanent role.


The purpose of the Technical Superintendent role is to ensure that assigned vessels are maintained and operated safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all applicable regulations and client expectations. This includes managing technical support, planning maintenance and repairs, and supporting the crew with operational needs.


Accountability and Key Performance Areas

* Maintain the highest safety, environmental and operational standards across nominated vessels.
* Deliver optimal vessel performance and reliability with minimal downtime.
* Ensure that nominated vessels are managed and maintained in line with Class, Flag and Company requirements.
* Manage the vessel maintenance and repair programmes including dry-dock planning.
* Maintain CMMS accuracy and ensure accuracy in reporting for assigned vessels.
* Ensure defective conditions are identified, monitored and closed out in a timely manner.
* Deliver technical support and root cause analysis for defects and breakdowns.
* Demonstrate active safety leadership promoting safe operations across nominated vessels.
* Demonstrate constructive and positive behaviour and attitude, aligned to UOS core values.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Robust adherence to the Business Management System ensuring all assigned vessels are managed in line with the procedures detailed.
* Undertake the diligent technical management and be the technical focal point for assigned vessels.
* Ensure that assigned vessels are maintained and always operated safely and in line with Class, Flag State, legislative requirements and industry best practice.
* In conjunction with the Operational Excellence department, coordinate with Class and Flag to ensure surveys and inspections are completed in line with required frequencies.
* Ensure that vessel certification is maintained and up to date at all times.
* Monitor and ensure defective conditions are identified and closed out within a timely manner and do not impact safe vessel operations.
* Close out audit findings and recommendations raised against assigned vessels.
* Monitor the vessels' condition and performance and report against the same.
* Ensure that the assigned vessels are maintained in accordance with the CMMS and that maintenance backlog is minimised.
* Undertake vessel visits to meet with the crews and carry out detailed technical and maintenance system audits, reporting on the condition of the vessel and compliance against UOS standards.
* Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for the completion of maintenance, repair, and certification services / surveys onboard assigned vessels.
* Undertake and support with the planning and supervision of vessel dry-dockings and repair periods as necessary.
* Maintain a close relationship with the management team onboard the assigned vessels, ensuring they are motivated and aligned with Company goals.
* Effective line management of senior management team onboard assigned vessels including performance management.
* Support the General Manager – Fleet in ensuring that assigned vessel OPEX budgets are closely monitored and diligently managed.
* Ensure that all technical failures are thoroughly investigated and the root causes clearly understood to enable lessons learned to be implemented and shared with the wider fleet.
* Monitor and maintain appropriate spare parts inventories on assigned vessels, ensuring the vessel has suitable and sufficient spares available for uninterrupted operations.
* Support the roll-out of new systems, technologies, and efficiency initiatives.
* Participate in Client meetings as required pertaining to issues or topics relating to assigned vessels.
* Member of the emergency response team and participate in emergency response drills and fleet exercises as required.
* Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by your line manager.


Experience, Competency, and Skill Requirements

* Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Nautical Science
* Chief Engineer licence
* Seagoing experience in a senior technical position on offshore support vessels
* 3+ years of shore-based technical superintendent experience
* Strong knowledge of vessel systems, maintenance, and repair procedures
* Solid understanding of ISM, Class, and Flag requirements
* Experience in dry-dock planning and execution
* Strong organisational and budget management skills
* Proficiency with CMMS, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively in a fast-paced operational environment
