A little more about your role You will join our Geotechnical team in Gloucester, right at the start of WSPs long-term professional services contract for Gloucestershire County Council (GCC). Under this collaborative contract we are based in the client’s office, directly support our client’s officers and share a set of delivery objectives. You will work within a team of established professionals with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of geotechnical conditions and projects across the county. You will be further supported by geotechnical colleagues from across WSP who provide additional resources and specialist expertise to deliver high quality services. Gloucestershire's diverse geology and topography present an array of geotechnical challenges that require innovative engineering approaches. The 2025/26 financial year is an exciting time, with GCC providing considerable additional funding to the geotechnical programme in recognition of the frequency of geotechnical occurrences across the County. Your role will involve a wide range of work and responsibilities, these will include: Involvement through all stages of geotechnical schemes Undertaking the technical lead role on a range of geotechnical-related projects. Development and procurement of ground investigations. Writing and checking of reports (monitoring memos, PSSR’s, GIR’s etc.). Undertaking and checking design and assessment calculations (piling, soil nailing, shallow foundations, earthworks etc.). Checking of CDM documentation. Supporting the project management of schemes. Maintaining and developing excellent Client relationships. Support the development of more junior staff through technical training and mentoring. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… A passion for working on projects that make a real difference to local communities. A mature approach to Health and Safety, promoting high standards and setting an example for the team, colleagues and clients. An excellent knowledge of the relevant legislation which you can use to drive compliance on your projects and among colleagues. Experience of working with clients to understand their needs, then developing pragmatic geotechnical solutions that provide value and longevity. A civil engineering degree or equivalent. Incorporated or Chartered status (or actively working towards this) with a professional institution. Evidence of being a confident communicator able to convey your point of view and keep stakeholders and colleagues informed. Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
