Heritage Policy Officer £32,255 - £38,500 Permanent, Full time (35 hours per week) Location: Longmore House, Edinburgh(with hybrid working) Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is seeking candidates for a role within our Heritage Policy team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small team that delivers guidance related to Historic Environment Scotland’s regulatory and advisory roles. The Heritage Policy Officer will research a range of topics and engage with people across HES, the heritage sector and beyond to inform our strategic programme of work. The role will also support the delivery of individual guidance and policy projects. This role provides the exciting opportunity to utilise your policy, communication and analysis skills to support the development and delivery of national policy and guidance that supports good decision making in the historic environment. About the role This role is based in the World Heritage and Heritage Policy (WHHP) Service in Historic Environment Scotland’s Heritage Directorate. We lead on policy at the national level and give advice, develop guidance, and deliver training to those who make decisions about changes to the historic environment. The role will be supporting the Senior Heritage Policy Officer to deliver a strategic approach and programme for delivery of heritage management policy, guidance and published advice. The Heritage Policy Officer will utilise their drafting, editing and proofing skills to ensure our guidance and policy documents are consistent with policy and legislation, accessible and written in plain English. They will be highly organised when providing support to ensure the efficient delivery of projects and undertake monitoring, research and analysis to ensure our work programme is effectively informed. About you We are looking for a candidate who has: Demonstrated skill in writing to make complex information accessible and easy to understand. Experience providing support to project development or implementation to ensure efficient and effective delivery. Ability to monitor, research and analyse wide-ranging information and identify and communicate priorities. This may include experience in analysing user feedback or researching into current policy use. Experience engaging with internal or external stakeholders. Knowledge of ongoing and upcoming issues for the historic environment and planning sectors. Experience in historic environment sector, town planning or environmental specialism.
