Overview
Research Support Officer — Neurobiology (Dr Joergen Kornfeld) at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). Fixed term, 2 years. Based in Cambridge, UK.
Starting salary options: Band 4 £40,832 - £45,589 per annum or Band 5 £30,911 - £35,346 per annum, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
* Play a key role in establishing a state-of-the-art electron microscopy (EM) connectomics laboratory at LMB.
* Provide essential support in setting up and maintaining the laboratory, ensuring equipment, chemicals, and protocols are in place for smooth operation.
* Coordinate procurement and organisation of laboratory supplies.
* Assist with sample preparation and support researchers in daily laboratory tasks.
* Work with cutting-edge technologies and support innovative neuroscience research.
Qualifications
* Background in laboratory management or technical support, preferably with experience in electron microscopy or a related field.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage laboratory supplies, protocols, and equipment efficiently.
* Experience with sample preparation techniques, especially in a connectomics or neurobiology setting, is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team; proactive attitude toward problem-solving and supporting research.
* A degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent practical experience in an EM facility is required.
* For Band 5: bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry or related subject. For Band 4: master’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry or related subject.
